My Money, My Review: A Must-Try Korean Eatery "Park Bong sook " Restaurant in Lidcombe

by 그린핑크나무 2025. 2. 22.

When I heard that Park Bong-sook Restaurant – the celebrated spot from Eastwood – had opened a branch in Lidcombe, I couldn’t resist checking it out. Full disclosure: I wasn’t sponsored for this review; it was all completely self-funded, lol.

I was utterly surprised from the moment I sat down. As I tucked into the bossam set, my own dream of opening a restaurant nearly wavered—such was the quality of the food!

The pork was simply outstanding. The boiled pork belly was unbelievably tender and flavorful, completely free of any unpleasant gaminess, and had just a hint of a smoky char that elevated the dish. Accompanying it was a sort of cabbage salad-like kimchi drizzled with a tangy-sweet sauce. While it wasn’t the traditional Korean bossam kimchi, its refreshing crunch and unique twist made each bite a delight.

My dining companion was just as surprised by the prices.

The tonkatsu, however, was pretty average in my book—nothing to write home about.

We were so satisfied with our meal that, despite being a frugal couple, we returned on our next day off. This time, we decided to try their signature “crazy” pajeon.

They served up an enormous deep-fried pancake that looked like a perfect beer companion. Unfortunately, it turned out a bit too greasy for my taste.

Not to be outdone, we ordered another round of bossam. The taste remained fantastic, but I couldn’t help noticing that the portion of meat was slightly reduced, and only a single serving of kimchi came with it. When I asked about this, a staff member (still new on the job) explained that the standard serving is one line of kimchi—even though I’d seen two lines before! Thankfully, they were kind enough to bring us a little extra, so we still enjoyed our meal.

A little tip for future visitors: based on my photos, be aware that the bossam only comes with one serving of kimchi.

I was a bit let down by the pajeon, so I’m planning to give the restaurant a little break before returning. They say the jokbal (pig’s trotters) set is amazing, and I’m looking forward to trying it on my next visit. That’ll be round two at Park Bong-sook Restaurant!

Here’s to many more delightful dining adventures!
